My 5k Run

Each year Wesley's family sets New Year's Resolution goals.

I was never a big New Year's goal kind of person but after marrying Wes I have really enjoyed setting aside some time at the end of the year to reflect on what I have accomplished the previous year and what I want to accomplish the coming year.

Well I felt a little overambitious this last time around and decided that two of my goals were going to be:

1. A 5K run

2. A Sprint Triathlon (which I must admit I asked to have taken off the list)

I don't know what I was thinking.

I guess I just wanted good reasons to get in shape after having Sadie.

However, I really, really dislike running. Mainly because I'm horrible at it AND I don't like pain.

But I decided I wanted to meet my goal and so I signed up for the South Davis Recreation Center's Sweethearts run, in February.

And so January I spent the majority of evenings at the gym trying to figure out two things.

One, how I was ever going to run 3.1 miles without stopping.

Two, why people like running so much.

The week that the run was to take place I had a lump in my throat all week.

I know that sounds a little dramatic (it is a little) but everyone knows how it feels when you are about to do something that you aren't terribly good at and you know people are going to be watching you, win or lose.

Before the run the fasted time I had run the 5k was 28:12.

When I ran through the finish line I thought I had run it at 27:40! So exciting but everyone had to wait and Wait and WAIT for the results until about five minutes ago.

It showed that I ran it at 27:46, so a little slower.

But they started everyone at the same time but we all didn't cross the start line at the same time so I am thinking I ran it a little faster than that.

But either way I ran it without stopping or slowing down and I ran it faster than I had done before. Both were things I was hoping to be able to do.

Here are a couple of pictures.

I took 14th out of 33 women in my age division and 126 overall out of 455 people.

I thought it would be a good idea to reflect on the things that I have learned.

So here it goes:

1. I still don't like running but I like competition which may in fact drive me to do another run. :)

2. Eating half a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream the night before a race doesn't really change things too much.

3. Running alone is, well, lonely. (Next time Wes offers to run with me I'm going to take him up on the offer.)

4. And finally, training and exercising because you have a goal really does motivate you to work out more and train harder.

As a bonus, I also am three pounds lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. Sweet!

Kisses

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Sadie has learned how to give big, slobbery wet ones.

She started doing it a few days ago and at first I was surprised by it and wondered if it was really what she was doing.

Of course her mouth is wide open when she puts her lips on our cheeks, she hold it there for a bit and then pulls back. Then she smacks her lips together to make the kissing sound. It's so cute!

So here is a picture of it. But she is really more interested in the camera than kissing me. :)

And of course I have to share another picture of her.

Yesterday she rolled under her swing and entertained herself for a really long time swinging her swing.

Joseph had a little overcoat.

Joseph had a little overcoat.
It was old and worn.
So he made a jacket out of it and went to the fair.
Joseph had a little jacket.
It got old and worn.
So he made a vest out of it and danced at his nephew's wedding.
By Simms Taback (For the complete story go here).

Novalee had a dress that reminds me of this story. But the story is a little different.

It goes something like this.

Novalee had a cute and brand new dress. She decided she could get it out of her closet all by herself.

Novalee had a cute and brand new ripped dress.

So her mommy made a skirt out of it.

Novalee had a cute and almost new skirt.

She got up too quickly and ripped it with her foot.

So her mommy made a headband out of it.

Novalee had a cute headband to wear.

But she didn't like it.

So her mommy gave the headband to her little sister Sadie.

And her mommy made a hair clippy for Novalee. Which her mommy thought was ugly.

But Novalee loved it.

The end.

My Mom Made This For Me

I love this sling! Sadie loves it too!
(No makeup= no so cute. But Sadie makes up for it with her cuteness, right?) :)

Generally around 4pm she starts to get fussy and all she wants to do is be held. And while I love holding her, it makes preparing dinner a little difficult. But as long as she is near me she doesn't mind what is holding her up.

As a side note, look what Sadie's been doing.

Getting up on her knees already!

I Know You've Heard This From Me Before But...

I just love Love LOVE JoAnns Fabric Store!

And I love even more their COUPONS!

Why am I trying to surpress my desire to shout this from the rooftops today?

Well for one thing I don't want to be the town crazy. :)

But the REAL reason is that their most recent mailer had a $5.00 off coupon for any regular priced item originally $5.00 or more.

Well I bought these today.

I know, I know at this point you are thinking, "Cookie Cutters? She's excited about cookie cutters?"

But yes as a matter of fact I am.

We have been in serious need of some new ones. Yesterday we made sugar cookies and our kids had to use the stars from Christmas. :)

Anyways, the cookies cutters cost $5.49 regularly.

So with taxes I paid $.52!

Oh ya!

Sadie's Pigtails

Sadie had pigtails for the first time today! They were so cute! She is so cute! I love that she had hair when she was born, it is so fun!

Anyways enough of that. Here are some photos of her.

Doesn't she look so big? I hate getting older because time really does fly. She is going to be five months on Wednesday. I can't believe it.

Okay so not "some" pictures of her, a lot of pictures of her. (Wes says I take a lot of pictures). :)

I'm so glad that Novalee hasn't really been jealous of Sadie but instead she just loves her. Whenever Sadie is crying Novalee always runs and grabs one of her toys and brings it too her. Then she reassuringly says, "It's okay my Baby Lovins." I just love that.

I also want to say that Jared really loves both of his sisters. But whenever he is with them and I'm about to take a picture he says, "No no no" and runs off. I guess he is too manly for that kind of stuff. :)

Things That I love

Up until now this has just been a piece of paper sitting in my nightstand drawer.

I feel like I have it pretty good.

And for whatever reason I wanted to share some of the things that make me happy.

Also I have heard that you can't love the things that you use because you don't use those you love. But for this post let's just say the word "love" is used very loosely in some instances.

  • Being organized

  • New Fabric

  • Auto-fill on the computer

  • My kids getting along

  • Dinner already made without my help

  • That my car still runs and when it's clean, that it still looks decent :)

  • Baking desserts with my kids and eating the desserts too of course.

  • When my sons teacher tells me he did "better" today

  • Reaching goals

  • Clutter free areas in the house (currently non-existent)

  • Outings (with or without my kids) :)

  • My can opener I bought two years ago (before I was using a dollartree one. Ouch!)

  • Gift cards. Even though they have a negative stigma of being so called, "impersonal". I don't care. What is better than buying exactly what you want without having to feel guilty about spending money you don't have?

  • food storage (it can be such a peace of mind)

  • coupons

  • my vacuum

  • going to change a poopy diaper and finding out it's only wet or at least that the poop stayed in the diaper

  • being able to make something look new or feel new again

  • when my kids ask me about Heavenly Father

  • working out

  • bedspreads

  • snuggling in that bedspread with my kids

  • The warm sun coming in through a window and I can actually let the warmth put me to sleep

  • Having a washer and dryer in my apartment instead of having to cart the laundry and three kids to the laundry mat in freezing weather

  • My little Novie dressed up so cute for her dance class in her tutu.

  • The church we go to

  • My sweet little family

I probably overlooked a gazillion things but these are things I really love right now.

What are somethings you consider a blessing in your life?
