Baseball Season is Over!

Finally baseball has ended!  I can't say I'm too sad that it is over.

Before the first practice, the league called parents to let them know that our team didn't have a coach so Wes volunteered.

So twice a week for about three months we all went to either a practice or a game.  I got to be in charge of chasing after two little girls and watching over Novalee.  While Wes was in charge of a team of 11 six to eight year old boys.  I'm not sure which job was harder.  Some nights I would have gladly taken Wes' spot on the field.  Maybe next year. ;)

Their last game was held at Pacific University on the Softball field so the kids got to experience what playing on a real field was like.  They even had their names announced over the loud speakers when they came up to bat.  I think all the kids really enjoyed it.

I only have pictures of this game because I finally gave up trying to get a picture of Jared up to bat because every time I was right there with the camera, he was posing for me instead of watching the ball...silly boy.  :)

Overall it was a really good season for everyone.  I think it was good for the girls to come to each game and cheer on Jared.  I think Wes learned a lot about coaching and is kicking around the idea of doing it again next year.  But I can't say for sure that he is ready to make that commitment now. :)

And Jared. 

 It was amazing to see the difference one year made in sports.  The year before he didn't seem that interested in it.  He was more the daisy picker in the outfield.  This year he was all about working with his team.  He became a great hitter.  I think he only struck out a few times the whole season.  He has a good arm, catches well, gets the idea of the game.  It was really fun just to watch him get so involved in it.  And of course it was great to hear him say to us after the games things like, "I did pretty good, huh?"  or "Did you see me catch that ball?"  

 

We sort of love him. :)

 

 

 

 

Jared's 1st Pinewood Derby

Wes and Jared worked together to build his pinewood car. 

At first Jared had this elaborate plan that included lego men and I think wings.

But thankfully he decided on a simpler plan because he didn't want to waste any lego men.

The night of the derby (30 minutes beforehand) Wes was melting lead onto the bottom of the car but he didn't remove the wheels and the hot lead actually warped one of the wheels.

The look on Jared's face when his car didn't even make it all the way down the track on the first run was so sad and yet priceless. 

Thankfully someone had an extra pinewood kit so Wesley quickly changed out the wheels and thankfully not only did Jared's car make it down the track after that but he actually won a few heats.  :)

 Jared was pretty proud of his car.

 

I'm afraid this is the only way he wanted to pose with his car.

I really love Jared at eight.  It's such a fun age.  I love his jokes and the new things he learns and is excited about sharing with us.  He's pretty great!

It seems to have become tradition, at least for the kids, that we have to take a Carousel ride and go to the Candyman Store EVERY time we go to Seaside.



Home Improvement Helper

Owning a home is a lot of work!  And we seem to always have something we are working on.

 

I can't say that all of our kids have caught the fever of helping us work. 

But Sadie loves to be our little helper.  She is convinced that Daddy doesn't mind her playing with his tools because she is just "organizing" them AND because, "Daddy likes me."

 

Just recently we caught her with the saw...cutting.

Nehalem Bay State Park...In A Yurt

The first weekend in May we went camping at Nehalem Bay State Park.

I know, that was almost two months ago...but this summer has been busy or I should say pre-summer since technically today is the first real day of Summer.  Wahoo!

Anyways, I can't remember the details as to why we ended up in a yurt (mommy brain is unforgiving) but we reserved a yurt a few weeks beforehand and  Wes worried up until the day of about the weather. :)

It was perfect. 

Also, Yurts are so sweet!  I don't think I have plans to camp any other way.  Really, I probably will have to but I don't wanna! (Insert whiny voice).  Yurts come with beds, heater and lights.  Ours had a deck, firepit, picnic bench.  All we had to bring was our clothing, sleeping bags, wood and food.  Easy packing.

So this park itself was great too because there were showers, real toilets (no airy bum, mysterious things living in the deep pit ones) and a playset.

Most importantly, the beach is seriously right over a hill!

We had a blast!

The next day on the beach was so relaxing. 

Not a single cloud, perfectly hot and we just played and played.

Kinsley loved playing in the sand AND eating random bits of anything she could find.

You wouldn't believe it but I actually did leave some out.

Sadie couldn't get enough of the water and wanted Daddy to come run from the waves pretty much the entire time.  

 

Our creepy seaworm which totally freaked me out.  With sharks and these babies in the water I'm pretty sure I'm not a ocean kind of girl.
