Trip to Rexburg

This last weekend we made a trip to Rexburg, Idaho to visit my brother Jeremy (which was a very quick visit, and I don't even think I have a picture with him) and my dear friend Chandee.


Chandee was one of my very bestest friends in High School. We had so much fun together! I have a lot of memories of us being super goofy together (most of which are still way too embarrassing to share on a blog). :)

After we graduated from high school she moved to Rexburg, Idaho.

We have only seen each other since then about three times.

So it was really great to visit with her this last weekend. It is always great to catch up with old friends and to see that they are doing really well. That they have chosen good paths and are happy.

It was so fun to meet her little boy Jack! He is so cute! I would love to say that Sadie and Jack just loved being around each other but I don't think they cared too much either way. I'm pretty sure Jack didn't mind having Sadie around except when she cried. :)

Hopefully it won't be a super long time before we see each other again. :)

It Comes With a Price

As parents we all look forward to each milestone our children make.

We wait anxiously for them to do the next new thing and cheer and clap when they succeed.

But most of the time it comes with a price.

Especially when your little one is drawn to paper, plastic, and anything electrical plugged into the wall.

Here's just one example. She's so proud of herself. :)

Prayer Time

So we try and make it a habit to pray at each meal.

Well just now it was Novalee's turn to pray. She always asks for help even though I'm pretty sure she could do a great job on her own if she was willing to try.

But after repeating a few things, I said, "Please bless us all."

She repeated, "Please watch over the salt."

Cute, right? I thought so. :)

Just Now

Just now I was doing my hair in the bathroom when Sadie crawled in behind me, pulled herself up to a kneeling position next to the toilet and started sucking on the toilet seat lid.

The only comfort I have is knowing whose bums have been on it lately.

I think this might be a completely appropriate story to file away and share when her first boyfriend walks through our doors in about 15 and a half years.

What do you think?

I'm pretty sure there won't be any kissing going on that night. :)

Summer Shorts

Summer is just around the corner and as usual the kids will need summer clothes again. (That kind of sounds like a radio commercial...)

They have just about everything they will need but Novalee has only two pairs of shorts that still fit her from last year.

I saw these cuties at Khols.



I thought they were so cute and reasonably priced (who am I kidding, everything at Khols is reasonably priced, except bedspreads.) :)

But I thought, instead of spending money I would just make them.

So I bought a pair, took the pattern from them and returned them.

(I feel a little guilty about that. But just a little.) :)

I've never really done anything like this before and instead of wasting good fabric I decided to try it on some black fabric that I still had left over from our wedding.

After racking my brains trying to figure out which step is first, I decided to go for it and they were super easy!

So now Novie has another two pairs of shorts for summer!

Sometimes I Surprise Myself

Do you remember when I made this?



I seriously just love this fabric! After making the car seat cover I had just a little bit of it left over and I knew right away what I wanted to do with it.

So I have been waiting for a time when I would actually have time to make an extra special something with it.

Oh! I'm so excited that I finally got this done!

Anyways, I went searching through Sadie's dresses to find a diaper cover to use as a pattern and I discovered this,



An extra diaper cover! Thank you Carters for at one time making what was probably a super cute dress that I lost but due to fate saved the bottom, for this exact project! :)

(Can you tell I'm tired? Most of the day was spent taking care of a sick dog and a needy baby. And it's 10:33pm. And I'm old.)

Anyways, cool, now I wouldn't need to make a cover which would save me a ton of time.

This is how it turned out! I love it!



The little bow was perfect for the skirt! I saved it from an old dress of Novalee's. I would love to claim fate had a hand in this too but I fear I'm just turning into a sewing hoarder. :)

Is it super horrible that I woke Sadie up tonight, just to have her try it on? I did. I feel a little guilty about that.

But I was too excited to wait! :)

She's a good baby. Always very patient with her mommy and is even super happy woken up. :)



The backside



The upside of having Mommy wake you up is that you get to be up when Daddy comes home. :) (Isn't he so handsome? I just love him.) :)

Recent Events in the Crockett House

Sometime last week Sadie learned to sit up really well on her own. Previously she had done it a hand full of times but now she is a pro! She is so proud of herself. :)



In fact just about any time you try and put her down now she has her legs up and out, so that the first thing to touch the floor is her booty. :)

Two nights ago she decided that starting to crawl was old news, that she needed to add to her growing abilities and so she did this.




Holy Cow! Sadie slow down. :)

I'm totally proud of her and I'm also fully convinced that she gets all her physical abilities from me. :)

A Calm Spirit

From just about the begining we've known that Sadie is a little different than our other two children.

Probably from about the time Jared and Novalee were a week or two old I would hold them high in the air and squeal (you know all the gibberish parents squeal to their kids) and you could just see that they loved it.

Sadie on the other hand. She's normally very quiet. She loves to be held and watch everyone.

She does NOT love being tossed in the air.

I am secretly hoping that she will eventually love the flight through the air but I'm pretty sure it will never happen. Most the time I just forget.

This morning, I forgot and I quickly picked her up out of her content world on the floor, with her toys and tossed her up while squealing. I'm pretty sure at first she was startled because all of a sudden she was flying and being squealed at (way to break her in, right?) but she smiled at me while coming down anyways. But when she went up her body tensed and she was reaching out for me.

Afterwards when she realized she was staying in my arms she gave me a tight squeeze with her chubby arms and kissed my cheek. And that's when I noticed she had a death grip on my t-shirt.

Poor thing. :(

Sewing I've Done Recently

I love the Make it and Love it website. She is amazing and I love just about everything she makes. She must be a busy mom.

She is always re-purposing things. I love that because anytime I can save a few bucks I'm game.

This was inspired by her website.

A dress that was too short for Novalee.


So I turned the bottom into a skirt.
Novie's eyes are a little funny looking in this photo. But it's the only one I have. :)

I saved the top thinking I would make another dress that was longer but probably by the time I find the right fabric and time, it will fit Sadie.

Jared had a Read-A-Thon which meant everyone could wear pjs. Well all of his pjs were looking a little ratty so I made these.



He loves them. Dragons and fuzz, you can't lose.

I made this quilt for my sister in-laws bridal shower. I'm kind of proud of it. It wasn't just sewing blocks together which is what I'm familiar with.



Its called Susannah and it's from the Quilt Bus, where they have a ton of free block patterns.

This is another Make It and Love It, creation.

Novalee wore it to dance class today, so cute!

I got this stretchy top fabric (there is a name for it but I have no idea what) about a month ago at Joanns and I have totally wanted to make dresses for the girls with it since and I finally got around to it.


I think they could use an embellishment or two but I'm not the kind of person that has a good eye for that. But I think they are fine the way they are. Novalee loves hers! That's all that matters, right? :)

My Little Artist

Both of my kids have gotten so good at drawing recently. But I really think Novalee is doing so well with it. Maybe it is just a girl thing.

A Full Weekend and House :)

This weekend was great! Probably one that we won't be able to top for a long time.

On Friday Wes' Mom, Dad and little sister Emily drove up from Arizona to stay with us for the weekend. It was so fun to have them here! We've really missed them.

We had so much fun!

Friday night we went to DISNEY ON ICE!!!

Totally amazing! I'm not sure what else to say besides everyone should try to go to it sometime if they can. If you don't have kids, you should probably borrow someones (with their permission of course) and go. :)

Sadly I didn't take my camera, so no pictures. :(

Then Saturday afternoon we went to the Hogle Zoo for the first time.




I love elephants. They are my favorite animal.
Whenever I go some place new, I try and buy a little one.
I really loved this one.
I told Wes that I wanted one like this in our backyard. Strange and not useful. I know.

***BUT WHAT IF!!!***

It was hollow on the inside and was a little fort, the tail was stairs and the trunk was a slide!!! Now we're talkin!

I fully intend on having one someday, even if it's for the grandkids years from now. :)

Jared loved these guys. Bat Eared Foxes, he loves bats and is mischievous like a fox. Need I say more?

I want one of these. The end.

Novalee and Wes barely survived the lions mouth. :)

Novalee loved the camels. She kept saying, "Awww, their so cute!"

Jared pretending to be a sloth. I kind of think he's pretty fun. :)

One is Plenty

Jared and Novalee are watching Nanny McPhee and Jared just asked me. "Mom, if you are married and your wife dies, do you have to get remarried?"

I said, "No you don't have to get married again but you can if you want."
Jared: "But would that mean I would have two wives? Is it better to have just one?"

To avoid confusion I just said, "If your wife dies, it is alright to get married again."

To which he replied, "When I grow up, if my wife dies I'm not going to marry again. I think one wife is plenty enough." :)

Sadie is Six Months

Happy Half Birthday Sadie!

Today I gave her those little fruit puffs for the first time. I love how babies try to grab things and when they are hidden in their palm they totally forget that they are there. :)



Here is another video of her crawling that I took last night. She has gotten so good at it! You once again will hear me talking. Why do I do that? It would have been totally fine without the audio. :)

I Just Couldn't Resist

A $5.00 off coupon came in the mail the other day from Deseret Book. It required no minimum purchase. I technically could walk in and get something under $5.00, up to $5.00 for FREE.

Well I saw a picture frame that I totally wanted for $7.99. I could justify spending $2.99, right?

Well when I got there they were on sale for $4.99! I could totally see my cute little girls filling up the frame.



But then I saw the boy one. I just couldn't resist getting one for Jared too. I mean, how cute would a baptismal picture of him look inside? (I do realize that is about two years from now.)

So I justified that since the original plan to buy one was going to cost less, why not buy both for a little more! I'm a sucker, I know.



But I still feel like it's was a great deal and I love the frames.

It only cost me $5.64 total!

I do realize that my whole spending more than I was planning to, is the exact reason why they have those kind of coupons. :)

Sadie Started Crawling

On March 4th Sadie started crawling. It was really great because both Wes and I were right there when it happened so neither of us missed it. It was so great! We kind of love her! :)

Bottoms Up

It might be hard to tell at first what this is. But it is a mothers sigh of relief.

With more than one child in the home, many hours of the day can be spent resolving conflicts, melt downs, or roof shattering yelling.

But not at the moment captured above. No, in the above photo Jared and Novalee are sitting together (very closely I might add) without hitting each other or fighting. They are sitting together coming up with ideas and laughing from excitement about the legos they have just dumped into a tub full of water.

Now, I did realize that I would eventually have to skillfully drain the tub without a single lego going down the drain but that was something to worry about in some other moment.

For now, just relief. :)
