Summer Shorts

Summer is just around the corner and as usual the kids will need summer clothes again. (That kind of sounds like a radio commercial...)

They have just about everything they will need but Novalee has only two pairs of shorts that still fit her from last year.

I saw these cuties at Khols.

I thought they were so cute and reasonably priced (who am I kidding, everything at Khols is reasonably priced, except bedspreads.) :)

But I thought, instead of spending money I would just make them.

So I bought a pair, took the pattern from them and returned them.

(I feel a little guilty about that. But just a little.) :)

I've never really done anything like this before and instead of wasting good fabric I decided to try it on some black fabric that I still had left over from our wedding.

After racking my brains trying to figure out which step is first, I decided to go for it and they were super easy!

I think she will like the button.

Then I made them with a blue fabric. I really like this pair.

So now Novie has another two pairs of shorts for summer!

Elastic $ .53
Buttons $1.50
----------------
Total Cost $2.03

And it was fun! :)

  1. Woman! I think you might need Sewers Anonymous or something! Holy crap- you're putting the rest of to shame!

  2. I like the idea and need to start thinking of shorts, but not great at making clothes. Smart idea, so clever.
