Since about week 8 this subject has been on my mind. At that point the "10 things I hate" about being pregnant were very clear. Now that I'm a little further along I have more things to write about that I enjoy. So here are the two lists. They are ranking in no particular order.
10 Things I Hate:
1. I hated being absolutely exhausted everyday from week 7 until week 14. It was like being a zombie everyday. And for some unknown reason being strangely unable to sleep at night.
2. I hate being so emotional. There have been some serious moments when Wes could have been thinking that I might be going crazy. One time in particular when there were tears and laughter at the same time. Crying because I felt so strange and weird to be crying over something so silly and laughing because it was so crazy to be crying. Poor Wes was so confused.
3. I hate getting fat and also having the knowledge from already having two kids that it's not just the baby getting bigger. I hate knowing that no matter how many times someone will reassure you that it is just baby weight, they are seriously lying to you. :)
4. I hate maternity pants. Seriously could they possibly make something less sexy? No matter what style, belly band, low waist band or no band, you always end up with saggy, frumpy bottom.
5. I don't hate this but I have noticed this. Since it's more of a negative than a positive I feel it belongs on this list...an increase in the amount of toilet paper you have to purchase on a monthly basis...which leads to my next point...
6. I hate having to use the bathroom like a billion times a day. Seriously what a waste of time! In the book Cheaper by the Dozen the father calls such times, "unavoidable delays" and I completely agree.
7. I hated that for the first trimester or even longer most women including me, feel like you are extremely sensitive to motion sickness AND you have been stuck on a small boat out in the middle of the ocean during a storm for the last three months.
Not to mention that this already sensitive girl happened to go to Avatar in 3D, which after the first 15 minutes, in order not to puke on the person in front of her, had to close one eye like a pirate for the duration of the movie.
8. I hate that when I bend over I have to spread my legs super far apart or else I bump into my own girth. It is the weirdest feeling when you start to feel your stomach against your thighs when you are sitting down. At least it is for me.
9. I hate having to go bra shopping...anytime. Pregnancy is an especially annoying time when you have to go several times.
10. This one might be my top hated thing about pregnancy. I hate OB/GYN visits towards the end of your pregnancy. When you have to go in every week to "check" your progress. I don't care how comfortable you feel with your doctor, it's awkward!
Wow, so many negative things! I had better end on a positive note.
10 Things I love:
1. I love the exciting moment when you find out that your suspicions that you might be pregnant are correct!
2. I love being able to get seconds and even thirds when eating and have people reassure me that it is totally fine since "I'm eating for two." Kind of a joke since you really only need like 300 extra calories a day when you are pregnant but hey, the excuse seems to be working and my sweet craving isn't complaining. I do however dislike it when your doctor recommends that you might want to slow down on the weight gain "since you still have so far to go," which has sadly happened to me in the past.
3. I know I said I hate maternity pants and I absolutely do. But I do love maternity tops. Especially the super cute ones that I totally can't afford to buy but I can afford to admire.
4. I love the first moments when I start feeling the baby move and I actually know it's the baby.
5. I loved the first four months when the baby bump wasn't too noticable but I was able to enjoy a curvier body. When you're normally flat front and back and side to side, it's nice to have moments when you actually look like you went through puberty. In my case I can only say, thank goodness for pregnancy.
6. I love baby supply shopping! Either you are totally like me and get this...or you're not and you don't. :)
7. I love having moments when I can just daydream about how life will be like with a new little baby in our lives. To be able to think about how she will look and what she will be like. To think about the special spirit that enters into the home with a newborn.
8. I know this is wrong but I absolutely love the idea that my husband has no idea what he has gotten himself into. In some ways I think it will be cute to get to watch him respond to poopy diapers and sleepless nights. (Which let it be known, that Wes did agree to change all the diapers on weekdays when he is home and 50% of the diapers on the weekend. While I'm not sure either of us know how we reached that agreement I'm pretty sure he already regrets saying it.)
9. I love that my other two kids are so excited about our little baby. I love that my thoughtful Jared reminds me to be careful when I'm exercising and asks me on a regular basis when baby is coming and I love that Novalee has started putting her baby dolls to bed with her so that she can practice taking care of a baby.
10. I love that soon enough I will get to look at and hold another blessing from my Heavenly Father.
hate list.
ReplyDelete1. ditto, except my exhaustion lasted till.... well i still have it.
4. ditto again, overalls saved my life cuz all my pants fell off my non existent bum no matter how small sized they were.
6. never experienced that, if anything my bladder did the opposite and became mega strong, kept pushing my uterus up into weird quadrants of my abdomen, the midwives were impressed.
8. YES! that was the weirdest feeling, you shouldnt be able to feel your stomach anywhere other than on your stomach, same goes for boobs too.
10. i had to beg them to check me and strip my membranes each time, lil bugger still waited till 2 days before his due date to come out!! you know you dont have to go! im sure youre fine and i can always take your bp for ya ;-)
love list:
1. can't relate, sorry lol
3. agreed. (some of my fav tops came from you!)
5. dood! it was awesome, i didnt start to show till week 21 but i had the porno boobs from like week 6!!!
6. isnt that what baby showers are for?
8. LOVE IT!!! haha poor wes!
Yeah, dude, seriously. People DO lie to you, but I don't care, I too love the extra helpings! But who am I kidding, I eat them when I'm not pregnant too. And totally on board with the curves. I'd have to add a couple things though: I HATE when people ask if I'm about to pop and then hang their mouth open when I say I have 4 more months. Also hate when people ask if I'm having twins. Seriously?!
